A Mile a Day in May · 1 May 2025 ·

Walk, cycle, run, scoot or even free wheel a Mile-A-Day in May to help raise funds for future Buscot babies and their families!

Story

I'm taking on BIBS Mile-A-Day in May challenge - to help raise fund for Buscot Ward - giving premature and poorly babies at the RBH the best possible start in life.

I have cared for many babies that have spent time on Buscot Ward and as a research midwife based on the ward I see the amazing work done day in and day out by nurses and by Sammy the family support worker. I see the impact that fundraising has on Buscot families, be it through life saving equipment or having breakfast supplies in the family room. Every penny goes a long way and makes a huge difference.

Due to knee issues this won’t be an easy challenge for me but I am determined to give it my all and raise money for this amazing charity!!

Babies in Buscot Support work focuses in 4 main areas of activity - keeping Buscot families "SAFE":

Support - providing families with independent emotional support while their baby is on Buscot, and beyond.

Awareness - we help inform parents about what to expect from a stay on Buscot by providing written information and we raise awareness of issues related to prematurity or sickness at birth.

Facilities - we refurbish facilities and accommodation on the ward to provide a more homely environment.

Equipment - We fund state of the art equipment for the ward including incubators, cardiac monitors, ventilators, phototherapy units and much more.

In addition we help families by providing gifts to improve their experience especially around key dates such as Christmas.
