Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hayling Light Railway was formed into a Charitable Trust and took over responsibility for all train operations in January 2022. Since then, the trust has made several urgent improvements: rebuilding locomotives, upgrading carriages for reliability, and enhancing security. We are grateful for the support we have already received to help deliver these projects.
We have also wanted to rebuild Mengham Station, but we just have not got the funds to be able to do this given other pressing priorities.
Mengham Station is not fit for purpose, and causing difficulties for disabled people, the elderly and families with Children and an eyesore on the seafront, spoiling the image. We have had to close the Station for the foreseeable future, so trains will not stop there until we can find the money to rebuild it.
We want to demolish and rebuild the Station, to include a new Shelter to protect passengers from the rain, a footpath giving safe access for the disabled, wheelchairs and children's buggies.
The scheme will cost an estimated £36000. Whilst it will provide a step free access for all passengers, it will also improve access to the seafront from Chichester Avenue/Sea Grove Avenue areas, providing a much-needed enhancement to this locality. Unfortunately, our efforts to secure funding from Havant Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery have so far been unsuccessful.
Thank you for your time and support.
