Story

Hello!

I'm Dan, a Leamington-based commercial photographer. This year, on Wear A Hat Day (Friday 27th March), I'm raising money for Brain Tumour Research by offering individuals a professional headshot photo in exchange for a donation to the charity. The Wear A Hat Day-inspired twist is that after the headshot they'd also grab a hat and strike a pose for a fun alternative photo. I'm hoping people will see this as a great way to support an important cause, get a useful and up-to-date headshot, and have a bit of a laugh too.

The photoshoot will take place on the 27th March in the Town Hall in Leamington Spa, with timeslots available from 10am to 3pm.

Book your ticket here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/foxlightphotography

Donations can be made in advance or on the day.

I'm asking for a minimum donation of £10 per session, with a suggested donation of £25 (a lot less than a professional headshot would usually cost).

Why it matters to me:

My family recently marked the tenth anniversary of the death of my stepsister, Katie, from a brain stem tumour. Aged just 38, a single mother to two young boys, her tragic passing had a devasting effect on everyone around her. Less than two years later, my uncle received an almost identical diagnosis and, despite the best efforts of the NHS, he too lost the fight against this cruel disease. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other type of cancer, yet the condition receives just 1% of the national research spend. It would mean the world to me if I can use my skills as a photographer to raise awareness and money to help the fight against this devastating form of cancer.

From Brain Tumour Research:

Since Wear A Hat Day launched in 2010, supporters taking part have raised more than £2.2 million, enabling scientific breakthroughs at our Centres of Excellence and helping us push governments to invest more in life-saving research.

Whether you favour a fedora, sport a sombrero or pop on a Panama – whatever your style – by wearing a hat and taking part in a fundraising event like this one, you’ll help bring hope to the one in three people who knows someone affected by a brain tumour.
