We provide support services, information to people with an acquired brain injury, their relatives and carers. We help brain injured people regain some quality of life through a wide range of services including carer support, social integration and rehabilitation programmes.

Story

Headway Wirral will be holding its fourth annual fundraising event on Saturday May 10th at Hoylake rugby club. It is a touch rugby tournament for both males and females, and is Headway's biggest fundraising event of the year. This year promises to be bigger than ever, with teams from around Merseyside taking part. It is a fun packed day for all of the family with entertainment and refreshments.

Did you know that there are over one thousand adults in Wirral who have an acquired brain injury (ABI)? Nationally, a person attends hospital every ninety seconds with a head injury. For most it is simply a bump on the head with no further repercussions. However, for thousands of people it is a life changing injury. Headway Wirral is a free charity that supports people with an ABI, their families and friends.

A brain injury not only affects the individual, but also those close to them. Living with an ABI can be very difficult and Headway Wirral is here to support them. Headway Wirral provides that support to around 120 families in Wirral at three drop in groups that meet each week across the area. In addition, Headway has a 'Zoom" meeting for those who cannot attend groups in person. Headway also seeks to raise awareness of brain injury, and to reduce incidents of brain injury through awareness training with medical students, General Practitioner Training, Merseyside Police and other charities in the area.

Although Headway Wirral receives a small Local Authority Grant, most of their funding is through private and corporate donations and fundraising events throughout the year, the main one being the annual rugby tournament at Hoylake. Any business or individual wishing to make a donation can do so to Headway Wirral. Every penny will help support Wirral people.
