Roy's Football Tournament for Heart Care (Walsall & Streetly)

Roy Harrison is raising money for Heart Care (Walsall & Streetly)

Roy's Heart Care Football Tournament · 18 July 2026

Heart Care is a small much loved local charity that provides rehabilitation to people suffering from heart and lung diseases. Heart Care provides free 3 and 2 month tailored programmes and then long term Aftercare indefinitely. These programmes consist of monitored exercise in our lovely purpose built gym, expert advice on diet & nutrition, lifestyle advice and emotional help through relaxation classes and counselling sessions. We help around 1000 people a year, many of whom are older in their 60's,70's, 80's and beyond. The areas that we serve (Walsall and the surrounding area) are socially deprived and this often leads to higher rates of ill health including heart disease. Put simply Heart Care is helping save and improve older vulnerable people’s lives in our community. Our staff are made up of nurses, exercise physiologists, health care assistants and a part time doctor who all ensure that patients have the very best chance of recovery from their health conditions. Patients (and their families) are often frightened and traumatised when they come to us. Our staff are professional, friendly and work hard at making patients feel comfortable and showing them that they can get their lives back on track again and return to a normal active life with their confidence restored.

Story

I am proud to be organising a charity Football Tournament in support of Heart Care in July 2026. This charity means a great deal to me personally and I would be incredibly grateful for any donation you are able to give. Every contribution, big or small, will help Heart Care continue changing lives in our local community.

Around six years ago I experienced heart problems and was referred to Heart Care for rehabilitation. Like many people facing heart conditions, it was a worrying and uncertain time, but Heart Care gave me the support, confidence and encouragement I needed to get back on track again.

The rehabilitation programme made a huge difference to me both physically and mentally. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and supportive from day one, and the monitored exercise sessions helped me regain my confidence safely. I also attended Heart Care’s Aftercare programme for a while afterwards and particularly enjoyed the Tai Chi sessions, which I found extremely beneficial for both my health and wellbeing.

What really stood out to me was the sense of community and friendship at Heart Care. It is far more than just a gym or rehabilitation service – it is a lifeline for many local people living with heart and lung conditions. The charity helps people rebuild their health, confidence and independence after serious illness, and it provides ongoing support for people who may otherwise feel isolated or frightened about their condition.

In 2022 I organised a charity Football Tournament for Heart Care which raised an amazing £2,300, and I am delighted to be doing it again this year to help support this wonderful local charity. A huge thank you to everyone that supported at that time.

Heart Care supports around 1,000 local people every year and relies heavily on fundraising and donations to continue providing rehabilitation, exercise programmes, emotional support and long-term aftercare for people living with heart and lung conditions. Please donate if you can. Thank you so much for your kind support.
