The Heart of Scotland is a fundraising appeal to raise and spend money in Scotland on vital medical research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease.

Story

Our family was devastated when we lost Gerry on 6th January 2025.

He collapsed at home totally out of the blue and could not be resuscitated. He had been a healthy 59 year old, who was part of a running club and played football every week. He had no pre-existing heart conditions that we were aware of, was fit, healthy and looked after himself well. The shock of the loss was overwhelming. After a post mortem was carried out we were told that his cause of death was a blood clot and that he had coronary artery disease.

We are totally lost without him, but are trying our best to keep going as he would have wanted us to. We are holding a “Walk to the Dock” on 6th September, as a way of honouring what should have been his 60th birthday earlier that week.

My daughter Rhianne, and my other daughter Rachel’s partner Ryan, are running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon on 5th October in memory of Gerry and in aid of the Heart of Scotland Appeal.

We hope that research and testing will mean in the future that no other family loses their husband and dad in such a cruel way.

We are trying to keep his memory alive and thank you for any donations you wish to make.

His light will shine on with us forever.
