I am one of the lucky ones! I am still here. I am fitter than I have been in a decade and I am on genetic modulator medication that has saved my life. I am not out of the woods yet and probably never will be...but I can at least see something beyond the trees!

CF is a gruelling illness. It takes and takes and takes. It hurts - not just chest pain and bowel pain but the pain it causes your family and friends, the pain of loss over and over again.

So this time I am running - yes running (because I can!) a half-marathon. (Shhh, don't tell anyone, I will probably walk a bit of it - I have cheated death a few times, so I can cheat in the run too!)

This time it is personal - for Dean and Alex and Carol and Nev and Anna and Ronnie and Alice and Andy and John and Helen and Jane and Jilly and Tracy and me - because for all those who have made it through, there are many who haven't.

The Heartlands CF centre is the place I stay when I am ill - I have not been an inpatient for a while but when I have been I have had the best care. I was there the day of the grand opening (last century!) and the need we all felt of having a purpose-built ward has been 1000% met. But it looks a bit tired now and it needs a refurb... because having spent weeks at a time on the ward and about 4 years of my life in hospital, it is important it is somewhere that feels like home.

Help me please to give the Heartlands CF centre the facelift it needs.
