Athens Marathon · 12 November 2023 ·

Due to oxygen deprivation at birth Evie suffered from severe brain damage and her family were told she wouldn't survive. Miraculously Evie lived for 3 years, but needed 24/7 care. Overnight respite at home was invaluable to her family. In her memory we now help to raise funds for other families.

Story

After a year of recovering from injury, I am running my 40th marathon to raise as much as I can to support the amazing charity, Evie's Night Owls, which was created to honor of my beautiful, brave niece. This charity, founded by my sister and brother-in-law, funds night-time respite care for families with seriously ill children.

Evie's story: In 2012, Evie was born severely brain damaged after being deprived of oxygen during her birth. Doctors did not expect her to survive beyond 48 hours, but she went on to celebrate three birthdays with her family. This year would have been her 11th birthday, and Evie's Night Owls has become an independent charity, supporting families by funding mush-needed night-time respite care for families with seriously ill children
