Story
Myself & Isla will be running the Chorley 2km family run on Sunday 3rd May & Si will be running the 10km in the hope to raise some money & awareness for APP - Action on Postpartum Psychosis. This is a charity very close to my heart as they were an incredible support for me this time last year. This is not a story I have shared with many people as there is still unfortunately a huge stigma around postpartum mental health - but I suffered with Postpartum Psychosis when Ruaridh was just 12 weeks old. It's something myself & my family had never even heard of & affects around 1 or 2 in 1,000 births in the UK. I was very lucky in this was caught early and after spending 6 weeks in the mother & baby unit and lots of after care in the 12 months that followed, I have almost made a full recovery. Action on Postpartum Psychosis has played a huge part in this, but some mums aren't so lucky and if not treated early this illness can become life threatening for mum & baby. APP is a UK charity and mainly relies on funding by public donations & charity fundraising. We are incredibly lucky in the UK to have charities such as these & the NHS with 20 mother & baby units across England. Please if you can even just spare 50p for this wonderful charity that would mean the world, I know times are tough at the minute so I hope even for those who can't spare anything by sharing this it will raise awareness which may just help a family member or friend in the future. I'll be running with Isla because she's been by my side through all of this & is the strongest little girl I will even know! Her resilience is phenomenal 🩷
