Just over 2 years ago my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer. It was a completely unexpected and out-of-the-blue diagnosis, as these things are. By the time, the cancer was diagnosed, the tumour was already 10cm in size, so it became a matter of urgency to have it dealt with. Garuda underwent keyhole surgery to remove his left kidney and the tumour in May 2024 and, through the wonders of modern science, the amazing NHS and a brilliant surgeon, the operation was a success.

I won't go into the full story, but after a subsequent treatment of immunotherapy, a diagnosis of secondary lung cancer, another operation, multiple scans, appointments, blood tests and an ongoing treatment of daily chemo tablets, it has been, and continues to be, quite a journey.

We have been incredibly lucky to have the support of amazing friends, family and a wonderful meditation community. What has also been really lovely and hugely appreciated, has been the free, ongoing support from the amazing local charity, Babons Cancer Support.

Babons offer a range of services like therapeutic support groups, counselling, financial and emotional support.

So this fundraiser is an opportunity to show our appreciation and to give something back for all the incredible work they do and support they give.
