Story

Disability Sport Fife (DSF) are a wonderful charity who put the people are the heart of what they do. DSF put on several sessions a week, multiple sessions a day ranging from generic session like multi-sports and racket sports to sport specific such as athletics and swimming.

DSF aim to be as inclusive as possible for all participants, throughout the week coaches and peer mentor support people with a wide range of disabilities with people as young as Primary school age right through to adulthood.

Not only do DSF put on weekly sessions they also organise competition and events to get as many people involved as possible. DSF host competitions for as many sports as possible which include Sports Basketball, Athletics and Football but also some calmer sports like Boccia and Bowls.

To add to an already busy schedule they have organised events like the Parasports festival and Women and Girls Days, These target a group of people within the disability community who are not as likely to join in with sports, it gives participants a safe place to come along and join in with several different sports to see what they enjoy.

Personally DSF have given me a place where I feel very relaxed and happy, I started with DSF at 1615 Tuesday 5th October 2021 (not being specific at all lol) for a placement while at Fife College. When my placement came to an end on the 19th April 2022 I was asked to stay on as a paid coach.

Since then I have coached at 2/3 sessions a week plus every competition I could possible make getting the opportunity to learn about different sports and disabilities by officiating or lane placing (getting athletes in there lanes during swimming comps).

One of my favourite achievements is being the DSF throws coach, where I work with a couple of athletes some new to the sport and others more experienced. It has given me the chance to push my coaching to the next level as I had to look for different drills to help the athletes.

However with that being said the main reason I am fundraising for DSF is because of the people. The people who organise all the sessions/events have been there for me when I needed it, they have supported out with sessions but also celebrated personal achievements like passing my driving test. Without DSF I would be very isolated, I would not have the career goals I have today and I would not be as confident as I am.

DSF is the charity that is there for you when know one else is.
