Heather's fundraiser for Sunflower Scotland

Heather Tyeson is raising money for Sunflower Scotland

Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2025 · 14 September 2025 ·

Our mission is to help the most vulnerable people in Ukraine's frontline villages. Women, children, disabled and older people need our help more than anyone else. We buy food in Ukraine, rather than sending it from the UK. This way we support the local economy. We have a permanent team in Kharkiv, and we cover areas near the north-eastern front.

Story

I have been absolutely honoured to meet some incredible Ukrainian people here in Scotland through my wee brother, Cameron. These wonderful people are now part of my family since they have been living in here to escape the dangers of the war in Ukraine. But some people have not been as fortunate to seek safety in another country.

When my friends asked if I wanted to join the Kiltwalk, this year I thought it made sense to find a worthy charity who supports Ukraine from Scotland. That's when I found 'Sunflower Scotland'.

They understand that all parts of Ukraine have suffered a lot. Big cities - Kyiv, Kherson, Kharkiv - get ample media coverage. But frontline villages don't. Sunflower Scotland go there several times per month, so they know what's going on. They understand that because of extreme poverty, people have no money to escape to safer parts of Ukraine, let alone fly to the UK. So their first priority is to get them food. Sunflower Scotland buy food in Ukraine to support the local economy. They also support rehabilitation centres for amputees, help frontline medics to save lives, and bring supplies to front line hospitals. They use 4×4 vehicles and vans to bring aid to remote and dangerous areas and after donate them to Ukraine.

Please help me to help support Ukraine by support me complete the Kiltwalk on the 14th September!
