Story
I am running the London marathon for the Children’s Family Trust (CFT), a charity and independent fostering agency working in Yorkshire and other parts of England. I’ve chosen to champion this charity because of their ethos: A Family For Life.
The CFT has nearly 80 years of experience working with vulnerable young people, and provides a range of services aimed at supporting those who are unable to live with their birth families, including after they leave formal placements.
The CFT understands the kind of support care leavers need to succeed outside the care system. They know that no two young people are the same and their ‘post-independence’ support is driven by the individual and their needs. The kind of support they offer can include:
- Acting as a Guarantor when a young person starts university
- Paying for driving lessons
- Providing deposits and furnishings for that first flat
- Helping out with bills
In short, things you would hope your family might do for you when you leave home for the first time - and a family is what every young person deserves.
This ethos resonated deeply with me, having recently become a mother. By donating, you’ll be contributing to their important mission: ensuring no young person who has passed through their doors is ever left without a safety net.
