Hebridean Way Cycle · 16 August 2025

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, situated in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, exists to help our patients achieve the best quality of life possible in whatever time remains for them. Where it may not be possible to add days to lives, we aim to add life to days for patients and their families.

Story

On the 16th of August, we are cycling the Hebridean Way over four days to raise money for The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.

In October 2023, we lost my mum to her brave battle with cancer. She had little to no symptoms and was in all low risk categories. Unfortunately she had an aggressive mutation which resists treatment and was given 6 weeks to live but fought for a miraculous year.

My mum was proudly from the Isle of Lewis and we were fortunate to arrange a family holiday during her terminal illness. After the trip, I told my mum I'd cycle the Hebridean Way for her and to raise money for charity. The 185mile route spans across 10 Scottish islands, starting in Vatersay and finishing at the Butt of Lewis.

The Hospice provided the most amazing care to my mum and family - we are forever indebted to them. Great people and great design make differences; thank you to all of the incredible staff who were like family and to the designers who created thoughtful, beautiful spaces. This hospice fills the gap in the healthcare system providing the facilities you need during such a hard time. We are so grateful for the hospice accommodation allowing us to be near and able to look after each other. Particularly during my mum's final week when my nephew was born.

A special thank you to the most wonderful consultant we could ask for and someone my mum thought so highly of - Dr Cicely Cunningham.

This will be my hardest cycle yet and an incredibly emotional one. Any support would be hugely appreciated.
