Story
I am doing this very long walk over 3 continuous months, to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's/dementia. This has affected our family, firstly with my grandmother and then her daughter - my mum who had Vascular Dementia. It is a horrible thing for any family to experience, and in my mums case a slow mental decline, to the point where she didn't know who any of us were on a daily basis. Confusion and forgetfulness is something that we all experience on occasion. Imagine how this feels for someone 24 hours a day. It is was heart-breaking for her and everyone around her her. In particular for my dad who supported and cared for her until the end. I lost my mum years before she finally passed away, and it that time we were given a constant reminder of how awful this disease is.
I want to raise money to try to boost this charity so that they can push towards a cure that affects so many people. I am lucky that I have the time to do it before it may be too late for me... nobody knows what is around the corner.
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
We are the UK's leading dementia research charity. We exist for a cure.
Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
