Story

In April 2024 my (Helen) big brother Mark was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma brain tumour, which is terminal.

This has devastated us all. My big brother who has served his country in the Royal Navy, took me to my first rugby game, took me to the Army v Navy rugby game, with my nephew, George, and Mark's best man, Ian (that was a huge deal), taught me how to play chess and many, many other things, little things, over the past 49 years I have been on this earth as his little sister.

Mark's friends Andy, Duncan and Derek recently cycled to all the Premiership Rugby grounds in the name of Mark's Mission, supporting The Brain Tumour Charity.

This is my challenge to help raise much needed funds for, and awareness of, The Brain Tumour Charity, under the umbrella of Mark's Mission.

However I didn't want to be (scared) enjoying this experience on my own, so I have roped in my lovely friend, Claire Davies, to abseil with me.

When Helen told me (Claire) about her brother's diagnosis I felt completely helpless and knew there wasn't anything I could really 'do' for him, for her, for the whole family and all his friends in that moment. So when she mentioned that she was going to abseil down the lift tower for The Brain Tumour Charity and asked if I'd join her, I knew I had to say yes.

For those who know me you may think this will be an easy task given I skydive for a hobby. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm scared even when I think about it, but knowing that it's to raise money for such a worthy cause, I'm sure the butterflies will be worth it.
