I will be 60 next year and instead of having a party, I decided to undertake the St Wilfrid’s Hospice Sahara Trek. This is an opportunity to immerse myself in the vast and diverse landscape of this iconic desert. Local Berber guides will lead the trek across ancient dried-up river beds, sand dunes and sunbaked plains. We will be camping each night under the stunning stars of the desert nightscape.

Anyone who knows me knows how far outside my comfort zone this is but reaching 60 is an achievement in itself and I felt an extra challenge was needed.

St Wilfrid's hospice relies on charitable donations and fundraising to provide specialist care for patients and their loved ones at end of life and throughout chronic illness both in the community and on the inpatient unit. As a registered nurse on the inpatient unit I am privileged to see firsthand the difference donations make.
