Story
For me 2024 didn’t start as well as I imagined. On New Year’s Day I suffered a haemorrhagic stroke, I was fortunate that I only suffered some minor left sided coordination difficulties and weakness, which with the support of the ESD physio’s and occupational therapists I was able to regain the function and strength within a couple of weeks. I still suffer fatigue and occasional headaches, but I am getting stronger every day. Myself and Steff will be walking 10,000 steps a day throughout the month of March, I am determined to get out in to the fresh air every day regardless of the Welsh weather to achieve my daily goal. I would be grateful for any donations, I have found the Different Strokes Facebook page very helpful in aiding my emotional recovery.
Every year, 100,000 people have a stroke, and a quarter of them are under the age of 65. That's 25,000 younger individuals whose lives are forever changed in an instant. Stroke is not only the leading cause of disability in the UK but also brings forth invisible challenges that survivors must face. Debilitating fatigue, cognitive problems, and personality changes can become lifelong obstacles, preventing them from returning to work or caring for their families.
At Different Strokes, we believe in empowering younger stroke survivors to reclaim their lives through active peer support, valuable information, and exercise. We also extend our support to the wider family during these challenging times with compassion and understanding. Together, we can make a difference.
I am participating in the 'March On For Stroke 2024' event—a walk dedicated to raising vital funds for Different Strokes. By taking on this challenge, I hope to contribute towards supporting the incredible work done by this organization.
Join me on March 1st, 2024 as we come together to march on for stroke survivors and their families.
