Helen's fundraiser for Forces Veterans Afloat (FVA)

Helen Lyon is raising money for Forces Veterans Afloat (FVA)

Walking the South West Coast Path

FVA refurbishes donated narrowboats, with the help of volunteers. Once finished, these are loaned to veterans of UK Armed Forces, for up to 2 years. The veterans are in need of alternative accommodation, either because they are homeless or living in somewhere that doesn't suit them mentally.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Inspired by walking the El Camino last year, I have had the somewhat crazy idea to walk the South West Coast Path (630 miles) as a follow up. My walking buddy Tanya will be joining me , along with my husband, Ian and any friends/family who get the urge to join in.

I had originally decided to walk for the fun of it but was introduced to the Forces Veterans Afloat (FVA) charity by the Air Loadmaster Association (ALMA) as it is their chosen charity for 2026. I was particularly interested as my dad was a boatbuilder and we had a narrow boat for many years. I have been to see their work as they are based locally to me and I will be joining them as they bring these boats back to life. They renovate donated narrow boats for veterans who need temporary accommodation to support them through getting back on their feet. The veteran is nominated and supported throughout their journey by a designated charity. As they say, the FVA can't help everyone but those they can help greatly benefit from the opportunity to enjoy life on the water as well as stability and a new start.

If you want any further information please feel free to visit their web-site. Regarding my fund-raising I haven't set a target but if you feel that this is a worthwhile cause please feel free to donate whatever you can. Every little bit will help to support a veteran in need.
