Helen's fundraiser for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Camino de Santiago....I'm doing it my 'my way' · 1 September 2024
The Team was established in 1965 and normally have around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day every day of the year. We also have approximately 20 Support Team members assisting all aspects of the team but especially fundraising and acting as casualties.
We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. We are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.
Luckily, to date, I have admired the work of Cleveland Mountain Rescue from afar and never needed to call on them. But ......we should never say never!! They do a remarkable job so on 1 September 2024 I am off to Porto to start weaving my way through Portugal and Spain and the plan is to arrive in Santiago 3 ish weeks later......that's the plan and about as far as the plan has developed so far!....the bits in the middle depend on where the breeze and my legs carry me.
The 'bits in the middle' are between 160 and 260 miles of solo walking but I'll work that out as I go along. I say solo walking but 442,000 pilgrims tipped up in Santiago from various starting points last year.
All donations will go to the wonderful Mountain Rescue Team in Cleveland and will keep my legs moving when it gets a bit tricky!
Thanks.
Helen
