Most people won’t have heard of the Marie Collins Foundation and in the nicest possible way, I wish I hadn’t. MCF has a vision that every child harmed by technology assisted child sexual abuse will be guided and helped throughout their recovery journey. MCF believes they have the right to suffer no further harm.

Child sexual abuse destroys lives. The growth of technology means this is happening to children on a scale never seen before. The impact of this type of abuse means many never speak up. If they do, they often feel blamed for what has been done to them causing further harm. MCF works to change the system to one that will cause no further harm.

I met two guys, Lawrence and Phil, from MCF in the summer of 2022. I honestly don’t know what we would have done without them. They are still supporting us as a family.

Our daughter, Charlotte, was targeted on Snapchat. She was blackmailed, coerced and threatened into sharing videos and images. Charlotte changed - she was angry, confused and frightened but couldn’t tell anyone. She thought she could deal with it alone.

The abuse was in fact accidentally discovered by her so-called friends at the time. They managed to gain access into her Snapchat account and when they discovered the images and videos, they saved them to their own mobile devices. Charlotte was bullied and harassed about the content of the messages for about two months before two of these so-called friends began to share the images around Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School showing people what was on their phones, sharing them on group chats and then by Apple air-dropping them around school.

Bishops' High School was made aware and instead of confiscating mobile devices with the images on (as per the law), the safeguarding lead uploaded the images and videos on to a school computer meaning multiple members of staff also saw the images and videos.

Charlotte was diagnosed with trauma arising from all the crimes. She has been dealing with the effects of this for over three years. MCF has supported us in all manner of ways. Sadly, Charlotte was let down by Cheshire Police, The Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School (Chester) and the health services. We, like the MCF, believe this is wrong on so many levels. Things need to change.

Thank you for taking the time to read, if you can spare anything, it will be greatly appreciated and put to good work by our saviours at Marie Collins.
