Story
Book Trust is the UK's largest reading charity, transforming lives by getting children and families reading. A love of books changes lives. Children who read for pleasure are likely to do better at school, as well as be more socially, culturally and emotionally prepared for life.
I'm the owner and manager of Wonderland Bookshop. I have conversations with children every single day about the magic and joy that books can bring. I also believe that books have the power to build empathy and understanding, and that every child deserves to have access to books, and books to call their own. I completed my MA in children's literature earlier in 2025; simply put, children's books are my life and I dearly want to ensure that every child has access to books.
Research data suggests that one in ten children in the UK don't have a book to call their own. That in itself highlights why the work of the BookTrust is so important; for example, every baby in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland is entitled to a Bookstart Baby pack, containing a free book.
2026 is The Year of Reading. I turn 40 in November and I can think of no better way to celebrate than to push myself than with the London Marathon, raising money for a cause that I'm passionate about. Every donation will help get books into the hands of children, fund the important research and work of the Booktrust (including free author visits and books to schools), and help to get millions of children reading, especially those from lower income or vulnerable backgrounds.
In a world that is ever fractured, access to books is more important than ever. I hope that you can support me as I take on my 40th Birthday Celebration London Marathon, for a cause that I am so passionate about.
