Helen's fundraiser for Tango2UK

Helen Gadsby is raising money for Tango2UK
TANGO2 Deficiency Disorder is a rare genetic disorder presenting in childhood. It causes affected individuals to be unable to access energy effectively, leading to risk of metabolic crisis and walking and talking issues. We fundraise to support families, raise awareness & promote research.

Story

I wanted to get a bit fitter in 2025 whilst at the same time doing some good - that’s why I am completing three sprint triathlons across the Summer to raise money for Tango2UK:

(1) Uppingham Tri - 1 June

(2) Blithfield Tri (open water swim) - 17 August

(3) Derby Tri - 14 September

Tango2UK was set up by my good friend (and old boss) Tim Driffill and his wife Hannah, after their youngest daughter Phoebe was diagnosed with the disease. Their goals for the charity include increasing awareness, driving research and finding a cure for Tango2.

Those of you that know me well will agree that I am built for comfort not for speed and more likely to be found eating a croissant than doing laps of a pool - therefore the ongoing commitment for training in not one but three disciplines over a prolonged period will be a real challenge.

Over the cause of the training and races, I will be ticking off some other mini milestones - such as:

- first time on a roadbike (good luck other road users)

- first open water competitive swim

- first 5k for a long while in under 30 mins

I will be logging all my progress and race times on Strava - so come find me (or continue to track this page).

Any donation you can give will make a real difference to this small charity and also motivate me to knuckle down!
