Story
Jasmin, Lily and I are running the half marathon in Battersea Park to raise money for Headway, a charity that supports brain injury survivors, their families, and friends. In the UK, someone has a brain injury every 90 seconds, with Headway Surrey’s clients mainly having had a stroke or a road traffic accident.
I have chosen this charity because I was a patient there following my recent brain injury. I have witnessed their excellent work, and the funds will assist Headway in providing much-needed care to many people, enabling them to lead better lives after their brain injury.
It is currently very challenging for individuals with acquired and traumatic brain injuries to access the rehabilitation they need. Many people are unable to start this treatment for years after their injury. It is crucial to begin rehabilitation within the first 18 months for the best possible recovery of the person's cognitive functions that may have been lost. Supporting this charity will make it increasingly available and make a difference for the people who need it.
