Story
I’m taking on the Three Peaks Challenge this September to raise money for MORCure, a charity founded by Anna-Mai Andrews, whose daughter Amber lives with the extremely rare genetic neurological condition MORC2-Related Disorder (M2RD).
M2RD can affect the peripheral nerves and muscles, causing problems with movement and mobility, breathing, swallowing and other vital neurological functions. There is currently no cure.
MORCure is the first and only global charity for individuals living with M2RD or CMT27 and has already established collaborative research partnerships at the University of Cambridge and University of Minnesota.
I first met Anna-Mai when Amber was around 18 months old. Amber wasn’t yet walking and was in the very early stages of undergoing medical tests to understand her condition. Due to the rarity of the disorder, Anna-Mai and her husband Dan underwent a lot of worry and uncertainty with little peer support. MORCure is already helping other individuals and their families facing diagnoses by providing hope and connection.
Anna-Mai (the strongest woman I’ve ever met) has thrown everything at setting up this charity, and Amber is an amazing girl who works so hard just to do some of the things we all take for granted.
Her current record for walking unaided is ten steps and we are climbing the three peaks in her name (along with her lovely brother Sammy who will join us for the final climb) so please, please support this charity if you can. Every donation will help MORCure in its vital work. ❤️
