Story
For many years, Mrs Helen Bailey worked as a Teaching Assistant in our school. Very sadly, she died of Motor Neurone disease in 2023 and in her honour, we have been planning a small, memorial garden in which children and adults alike can feel safe and supported in a quiet, tranquil part of school. Work is already underway. The children who knew her best have been creating artwork which will be transformed into a colourful mural and, thanks to the support of parents, the entrance to this space is about to become a reality.
We are now in a position to enhance the space with plants and items which will not only bring the spirit of Mrs Bailey into this special place, but allow all our senses to be calmed. As it is away from the main play area of the school, it is quiet so the hushed sounds of water and soft music would be able to be heard. Moving forward, this space will become one for meditation and reflection as well as supporting the children with transition throughout their time in our school. Thus, we would like to invite our parent community to contribute to this space. No contribution is too small.
Whilst there are some large items we would like to bring into the space, all contributions are greatly appreciated. Here is a list of some of the items you may wish to contribute towards or purchase outright.
Bank plants including feed and compost - bright colours to include yellows and oranges £250
Frosting for windows, allowing further privacy £35
Privacy screen to side £80
We are planning to bless this space and dedicate it to Mrs Bailey after half term and it would be wonderful if these items and the work needed is completed by then. Remember, any contributions you can give are most welcome.
Kind regards, The Helen Bailey Garden Team
