Story
I discovered running in my mid-thirties when I already had two children. The plan was to get fit and drop a few pounds, both great reasons for running.
However, the biggest impact running made on my life was a real surprise to me. If I couldn't run I didn't miss the physical activity, I missed the impact it had on my mental well-being. I missed the time with my thoughts without distraction, the freedom, and the sense of achievement. Some of my best-laid plans have been formulated on long runs!!!
I know I am lucky to be able to do this. Many people don't have the health or confidence to put on a pair of trainers and enjoy the benefits of running. For them, the support needs to come from elsewhere and that is why I'm running for MIND to help them continue to fund their wonderful service to anyone suffering from Mental Health issues.
Working in construction this holds extra importance to me. We lose two people every day to suicide. Help keep the support through MIND available, these people are more than our colleagues, they're our friends and work family.
MESSAGE FROM MIND
When you're experiencing a mental health problem, supportive and reliable information can change your life. That's what we do. We empower people to understand their condition and the choices available to them through the following:
-Our Infoline, which offers callers confidential help for the price of a local call.
-Our Legal Line, which provides information on mental health related law to the public, service users, family members/carers, mental health professionals and mental health advocates.
-Our award-winning information, certified by the PIF Tick.
"Mind was such an invaluable source of information. I can't put into words how helpful they were for both of us..."
