Story

Hi, I'm Helen and I'm a team member at Vision Support Harrogate District, my role as an ECLO (Eye Clinic Liaison Officer) is to provide emotional & practical support to Harrogate & Ripon Hospital patients and local residents who have been told they are losing their sight.

It can be a terrifying experience to be told you are losing your sight and it's my job to guide people through that journey, to help them in finding the answers to those difficult questions and supporting them to receive all the help they need.

Vision Support Harrogate District has self funded this 2 days a week role for almost 30 years, and we need your help to expand. Each year we get busier and we're struggling to provide the service that everyone who is told that they are losing their sight should be provided with, they deserve to have 1:1 support to help them get back on their feet and live a happy life of independence. Will you help us support them?

We've been changing peoples lives since 1921

Our team of volunteers offer a vast range of regular activities, which encourages independent living and the learning of new skills. Activities across our district include peer support groups, IT training, craft classes, social events, fitness, and leisure activities.

For those unable to access the Vision Support Centre. To help alleviate their loneliness and isolation, our outreach worker Sue and her member volunteers provide telephone befriending, home visits and local community support groups. These services ensure that all our members receive the support they need despite the barriers they face.
