Help Us Keep Twins Together ❤️

On 1st of October, eight members of Bateman Groundworks will set off for Scotland to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge. Their mission is simple – to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, including all the travel between them, in the fastest time possible while raising as much money as they can for an incredible local cause.

This challenge isn't just about reaching three summits. It's about helping some of the smallest and most vulnerable babies in our community.

The James Paget University Hospital Neonatal Unit provides specialist care for babies born prematurely, unwell, or in need of extra support during their first days of life. Over the past year alone, the unit has cared for 21 sets of twins.

Twins share a remarkable bond that begins long before birth. Research has shown they begin interacting with one another from as early as 14 weeks in the womb. However, when twins require neonatal care, they are often separated into different cots—and sometimes even different areas of the unit—because there is currently no specialist twin cot available.

Parents regularly tell the neonatal team how much it would mean to have their babies remain side by side during such a frightening and emotional time. Although twins can sometimes share a standard cot for short periods, it isn't designed to provide a safe, long-term solution.

That's why we're raising funds to purchase a specialist Twin Baby Bed for the James Paget Neonatal Unit.

This purpose-built cot will allow twins to stay safely together while receiving the care they need, helping preserve their unique bond, providing comfort to both babies and giving parents precious moments of reassurance during an incredibly difficult journey. Even when one twin requires more intensive care, the specialist cot helps keep them as close together as possible.

For the Bateman Groundworks team, every mile driven and every step climbed represents a family facing one of the toughest moments of their lives. The pain of the challenge will last a day, but the difference this equipment will make will last for years.
