Story
On Thursday 25th April Maggie and Maple went out a walk they have done many times before to Bramcote Park. Sadly this walk wouldn’t end in waggy tails and happy faces.
While walking back to the car Maggie and Maple continued to play, running along the pathways, grass, and in and out of the trees. Maple came back safe and sound but Maggie squealed and came jogging back, it was as fast as she could move, panicked and with fear in her eyes. Her entire side had skin hanging off. She was rushed to Pride Park vets as she needed specialist care due to the extremely severe degloving injury.
The vets believe she has been caught on something sharp going in at her lower chest and stretching all down her side to under her back legs.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the wound and the size of it, the treatment is very extensive and has now gone beyond her insurance cover. The bill is currently over £5000 and climbing, the vets expect this to reach £10,000.
Maggie needs daily wound cleaning and redressing under general anaesthetic. She has had time in the intensive care unit, has been fitted with a feeding tube and is on a number of medications to try and keep her as comfortable as possible. She has also battled with necrosis meaning she has had to have surgery to remove some of the skin to help stop further necrosis in hopes of closing the wound up. Once it is able to be closed she will then need a lot of after care.
We have reached out to Border Terrier Welfare and spoken to Vanessa Jessop who has amazingly offered to support us with sharing Maggie’s story. Any donation made via this page will go straight to Border Terrier Welfare and they will use the funds to pay for any vet treatment she needs.
As a family we are devastated, anyone who has met Maggie knows what a sweet, loving and well mannered dog she is and at only 4 years old she has so much life left to live. All we want is for her to get better and come home to us.
We need as much help as possible to be able to carry on giving Maggie the life saving care she needs. If you can find it in your heart to donate, even just a pound, we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you in advance,
Maggie, Melanie, Maple and family
