Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain, and most commonly from a stroke. The difficulties of people with aphasia can range from occasional trouble finding words to losing the ability to speak, read, or write. Aphasia affects a person's language, but it doesn't affect a person's intelligence.

Story

This summer I’ll be walking 100km in 24hrs to raise money for Say Aphasia!

My Mum was diagnosed with aphasia after a double stroke in 2019. Aphasia is a condition which affects language abilities - for my Mum, it is a disconnect between thinking a word and saying it, making it hard for her to communicate. From right after her stroke when she wasn’t able to speak at all, she has recovered and rehabbed with incredible determination and is now able to talk again, although she still struggles with extended conversations. She now does work with Say Aphasia in Brighton, helping those who are struggling to meet alike people and grow in confidence!

Say Aphasia act as a community for those who struggle to speak. I want to raise money to help this community grow and aid people with aphasia find their voices again in a safe environment, much like my Mum continues to do on her journey.

Thank you in advance for helping me support this!

Henry :)
