Story
I am a 13-year-old boy on a mission to raise £500 for Jack Tizard; an extraordinary school in London dedicated to enhancing the lives of seriously disabled children between the ages of 2 and 19 years old. This is a cause deeply personal to me, as my older sister has a rare genetic disorder that means she has never spoken, never walked, feeds via a gastronomy and has low cognitive abilities, and she has attended Jack Tizard for nearly 10 years of her life.
It is tough to have a sister whose world is so small and restricted compared to mine. It makes me feel bad and often I wish there was something I could do to help her. When I first visited Jack Tizard, I was overwhelmed to see so many children with so many different challenges. My sister was not alone. She was so happy and the attention that each child was getting from the staff was remarkable.
When I had to choose a charity to support for my school project, it was a simple decision for me. Jack Tizard is a not-for-profit school and survives on grants and private donations to survive. Although the work they do is so invaluable, they are underfunded and lack resources in certain crucial areas. The funds that I raise will go directly into Jack Tizard’s general fund, and be directed to various areas of ongoing financial support; including the maintenance of the hydrotherapy pool, a more up-to-date sensory room, and necessary physiotherapy equipment.
My friend, Constantinos, is joining me to raise awareness and donations for Jack Tizard, and together we hope that you will consider supporting us on our journey to help this special school continue its work to support the lives of these extraordinary children.
