Story

In September, I will be running the Great North Run to raise money for the Lily Foundation.

This cause is important to me as my Mum works in mitochondrial disease (which is what Lily helps fund), due to this, I have learned about the challenges faced by people with this condition as well as the importance of research into better treatments.

This is also a huge personal challenge for me. I am only 16 years old and will turn 17 just two days before the race, making me just eligible to take part. Furthermore the furthest I have ever raced previously is just 5K and the furthest I've ran in training was only 5 miles. This means that taking on a half marathon is a major step outside of my comfort zone, although I'm determined to complete it for such an important cause.

Lily does lots to help people with mitochondrial disease as well as helping with the research. They use money donated to them to raise awareness of mitochondrial disease, provide support for patients and families as well as funding grants for medical research. Any donation, big or small would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you for your support.
