Story
I am going to be walking the Rutland Round in July 2026 with some of my dear friends to raise money for Headway East Northamptonshire.
This charity is very significant to me as it helps people and families who have been affected by brain injuries.
We will be completing the Rutland Round, a 65 mile walk over three days, in memory of my mother Fiona, who sadly died suddenly in July 2006 following a brain aneurysm.
I ran the London Marathon in 2016 to mark the 10 year anniversary of her death, and I was keen to do something again in July 2026 to mark 20 years since she passed away.
It is incredibly hard not having her here at such an important time in my life and, as my wife and I now wait for the arrival of our first child, there will be many new milestones and celebrations where we will feel the sadness of not having my mum there to share them with us.
Headway is a charity that provides vital support, rehabilitation, and community services to people living with brain injuries and the families supporting them. Their work helps people rebuild confidence, independence, and quality of life following life changing circumstances.
Having completed a 25 mile training walk on Saturday, I now have a much better idea of just how difficult this challenge will be, walking around 22 miles a day over three consecutive days.
Yet it will be worth the pain, aches, and blisters because it will achieve two wonderful things.
Firstly, it will raise money for a very important cause.
Secondly, and just as importantly to me personally, it will mean people are talking about and remembering my wonderful mum, who had such a positive impact on so many people’s lives.
Thank you so much for any support you are able to give.
