Story
I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for Liberty’s Children’s Book Project.
Today’s attention economy has contributed to a reading crisis. Book ownership has a threefold impact on children’s propensity to read spontaneously. Yet today, one million children across the UK still do not own a single book.
This academic year, the Children’s Book Project plans to give away 1 million books.
Their partnerships with companies such as Asda, Able & Cole, Bonnier, Hachette, and 13 Premier League football clubs have delivered books and engaged schools with children who need them.
1 million books weigh about 500 tonnes. I am raising money to help fund someone to manage the logistical challenge of getting books into children’s hands.
My target is £1,000, so I would be so grateful for anything you donate.
