Story

The Challenge?

This year, we are taking on the Jurassic Coast, and attempting to cover over 100 miles between our fabulous Cycling, Running and Walking Teams; including Henry, children of all ages, family and friends, and dogs!

On Saturday 4th May, the Cycling Squad will travel over 70 miles with a elevation gain of 1,000m, from Oakley, Basingstoke, to Swanage! - and this time we have a few road bike newbies joining us! The majority of cyclists will be cycling the furthest they ever have!

On Sunday 5th May, separate Walking and Running challenges will be undertaken in tandem; in a race to get to Durlston Castle, Swanage!

The Family Walking Squad, together with Henry and children of all ages, will be walking over 10 miles with a elevation gain of over 300m, via a loop of the stunning Jurassic Coast starting from Durlston Castle, Swanage, to Worth Matravers, and back to the Castle.

Meanwhile, the Running Squad, some of which would have cycled the day before (!), will be running a grueling 20+ miles and a elevation gain of over 1,200m along the challenging trails of the Jurassic Coast, starting from the beautiful Lulworth Cove.

The Challenge will be complete when all participants reach Durlston Castle, Swanage!

Why not join us?

We'd love to be joined by as many keen Cyclists, Runners and Walkers as possible! Including any volunteers for our Support Teams which are essential to help keep the participants safe, transfer / drive / taxi, feed, water and importantly motivate!

Who is taking part?

We have an amazing team of friends and family who have supported us from the outset and this year we are pleased to see new families and friends join us for the first time; we are very grateful indeed.

Why?

Time is against us. Henry was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) when he was just 3 years old. Having had time to try and process this diagnosis, we are now focused on helping Duchenne UK to find a cure, treatment or therapy for our beautiful son and all those who live with the condition.

What is DMD and who are Duchenne UK?

DMD is a muscle-wasting disease and is the most common form of muscular dystrophy. Duchenne UK is a charity that has one clear aim; to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development to find a cure.

How can you support?

We would be extremely grateful to anyone able to support Duchenne UK by raising awareness and making a donation, no matter how small, to help us save our Henry and End Duchenne.

Why not get involved and be part of our Walking, Running or Cycling teams; please get in touch.

Lots of Love, from The Saul Family & Friends xxx

Together, we will end Duchenne.

As the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) charity in the UK, we want to find effective treatments for DMD and end its devastating impact. We’re going further than anyone has before, and we’re doing it faster, because this generation of people living with DMD can’t wait.
