My name is Hermione and I am currently training for a 21km walk through London to raise much needed funds for a 21 day World Challenge Tour to Eswatini & Mozambique in 2025!

Throughout my 21 days in Africa I will be splitting my time between Neighbourhood Care Point (NCP) centres that provide much needed food and support to local children and families. These NCP’s are volunteer-run and exist to fill voids in medical care, education provision and social support, each of which are limited in rural areas of the country. My mission to support these centres is to build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all. I will be assisting local labourers with the development of the building or landscaping grounds with vegetable gardens or installing new chicken pens! I will have the opportunity to immense myself into local living and even try my hand at cooking local dishes with the NCP volunteers.

The second part of the challenge will see the group and myself move into Tofo, Mozambique where our mission is to sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans! I will be getting hands on getting hands on with beach clean ups and assist with data collection surveys to monitor the whale shark and humpback whales in this region. In a town heavily reliant on tourism for income generation, preserving the incredible marine ecosystem is vital for economic sustainability onshore as well.
