HFW Charity Walk from the UK to The Hague · 11 May 2024

Human Rights at Sea has been established for the benefit of the international community for matters concerning explicit engagement with human rights issues in the maritime environment. Our aim is to explicitly raise awareness, implementation and accountability of human rights provisions throughout the maritime environment, especially where they are currently absent, ignored or being abused.

Story

2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the Hague Rules, so what better way to celebrate than with a walk to The Hague!

On 11 May 2024, 27 people from HFW London's Shipping Department will walk from Essex to The Hague to raise funds for Human Rights at Sea. The team will convene in Colchester, heading up to walk along the Essex Way to Harwich. They will then jump aboard an overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland. Bright and early from there, a further walk along the northern coast of Holland, ending at the Hague. All in all the team will be walking around 50km across the two days.

Human Rights at Sea are challenging abuses at sea one step at a time. They raise the global awareness of human rights abuses at sea. They provide independent and objective information on the human rights issues that all those people who work at sea, the supporting families, and those in peril at sea are subject to.
