Story
On 5th and 6th May 2024, Helen and Maria will be doing a sponsored walk on the Vanguard Way to raise money for High Hurstwood CE Primary School.
The name Vanguard Way comes from a group of ramblers who established the route after sitting together in the guard's van of a train on their return journey to London. Since 1981, the Vanguard Way has formed part of our local landscape, and provided many hours of joy and mindfulness for new generations of hikers.
We will be setting off from High Hurstwood, first crossing through the beautiful Weald countryside surrounding our school, before taking in the South Downs, the Cuckmere Meanders, and finally reaching the coast. We will walk the 25 miles across two days, finishing up (fingers crossed) at Cuckmere Haven; without doubt getting lost somewhere along the way.
We decided to raise money for High Hurstwood because it has done so much for our children, and we want to give something back. Every penny we raise will be spent on further enriching the experience of all the children who are lucky enough to go to our encouraging, inspiring, lovely little school.
