I am honoured to be High Sheriff for Herefordshire for 2025/26. During my year I will be supporting agencies and charities whose work directly or indirectly impacts on the law and order of the county. My particular focus is on those who find themselves homeless or in need of temporary accommodation and young people in danger of becoming disengaged and lured towards crime or exploitation. I’ve been humbled to meet so many voluntary groups, doing great work - many need and deserve more support.

As High Sheriff of Herefordshire, I am following in the footsteps of Patricia Churchward who had such an inspiring year. The role is ceremonial and unpaid, a royal appointment to support the Crown and the judiciary. It is also a unique opportunity to meet people from all quarters; those involved in enforcement and protection; and those who may be drawn into crime through circumstances as well as the many in voluntary organisations doing their level best to give them a better path. I’ve already been privileged to meet so many people working across the sector in varying capacities, many supporting adults, families and young people in challenging circumstances.

I’ve now had the chance to meet a number of people in challenging situations. Each has their own back story and each deserves their chance of a better life. It’s in all of our interests to give them this chance.

I have to confess the scale of problems, from homelessness and poverty deprivation to mental health challenges, not least for young people, has been eye-opening and also shocking.

It is rewarding and inspiring to meet those working so hard to help others. There are so many organisations doing their best and making a huge difference but many need more support which is why I have set up this page. Every penny will be routed through the High Sheriff Fund which is allocated to deserving causes and organisations through the expert auspices of the Herefordshire Community Foundation. On their behalf, thank you in anticipation for any donations you make.
