Imagine growing up in a place where just being a girl increases your risk of harm.

Where dreams are crushed not by lack of ambition, but by violence, poverty, fear and neglect.

Where home — the one place that should be safe — becomes the most dangerous.

That’s the reality for too many girls in the area covered by Thrive, a domestic abuse charity working in what’s been identified as Wales’ worst place to grow up as a girl.

Here, domestic violence, poverty, generational trauma, addiction, poor mental health, housing insecurity, broken education and social isolation form the background noise of childhood.

The result? Anxiety, trauma, lost potential — and a cycle that repeats unless we do something right now.

We can’t be bystanders. We need to be changemakers.

Thrive is on the front line — and their work is more urgent than ever.
