Story
My very first swim lesson is one of my earliest memories: I was forced to blow bubbles underwater by "Miss Sunny." I gagged, spit up, and tried to claw my way out of the pool. I definitely cried. But Miss Sunny persisted, and paved the way for me to become a confident swimmer, a skill I believe everyone should have.
In celebration of Fiver Giving Day today, I am asking friends in my network for a $50 donation, which would support swim lessons for one child at Camp Fiver.
Why I am fundraising for Fiver:
For the last 7 years, I have watched Fiver Children's Foundation give promising young students the chance to feel confident, connected, and capable of creating their own future. That’s why I’m supporting Fiver, an organization that offers a 10 year transformational support program to youth from underserved communities in the New York area.
The numbers speak for themselves:
- 99% of Fivers graduate from high school, and 80% enroll in college, trade school or the military
- 95% of Fivers feel well-informed and confident
- 85% of Fivers remain committed to the program year after year
Each summer, Fiver youth attend a 2-week overnight camp in Upstate NY where they build confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships. High school-aged participants also take part in a 4-week career development program that equips them with real-world skills, mentorship, and a vision for their future.
Fiver isn’t just a summer camp—it’s a 10-year commitment to each young person’s growth, from elementary school through college and career. The impact is real, lasting, and personal. I’ve seen how Fiver changes lives, and I believe every child should have access to these kinds of opportunities.
