Hobbs House Bakery take on the 3 Peaks Challenge for Reverse Rett

3 Peaks Challenge · 21 June 2025
Our small but mighty HHB team will be taking on the 3 Peaks in June to raise money for Reverse Rett. Rett Syndrome is a genetic condition (often completely random) affecting around 1 in 10,000 girls. Rett Syndrome causes a huge range of complications and difficulties throughout the body. Most girls cannot stand, walk or talk. They have limited or no functional use of their hands. Chewing and swallowing can be incredibly difficult and unsafe, and a lot of girls end up with feeding tubes. Most suffer with seizures at some point throughout their lives, and breathing irregularities which can result in loss of consciousness. Body tremors are common along with low muscle tone, muscle stiffness and low bone density. Girls and women with Rett Syndrome are locked inside a body that they cannot use. They are aware, intelligent and unbelievably happy people, but battle against their own bodies on a daily basis.
Rett Syndrome is likely to reduce a person's life expectancy and there is currently no cure. HOWEVER, gene therapy trials are in progress and the results so far are astounding. Reverse Rett help to support the companies facilitating these trials, along with solely funding a specialist Rett clinic in London. The end goal is for all patients with Rett Syndrome to receive gene therapy, a completely life changing treatment. But in the meantime, the Rett Clinic in London is vital to keeping these girls and women as healthy as possible until that time comes. They provide support, knowledge and treatment plans that aren't offered as standard on the NHS.
Our 3 Peaks team have already been training for months and are preparing to push themselves completely out of their comfort zones to raise money for Reverse Rett.
We appreciate every single donation, thankyou!
