London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·

The brain is the most complex organ in our body. It controls our emotions, senses and actions. So when it breaks down, we break down. We fund the best research to discover the causes, develop new treatments and improve the lives of those affected. Let’s unite to accelerate progress. Today.

Story

UPDATE: Hugh has received a place with Brain Research UK so now all four of us will be running!

We (Hugh, Alex, George and Kitty Hobhouse) are running the 2024 London Marathon for Brain Research UK.

Our dad, Martin, was diagnosed with a Grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour last year. Since then, he has dealt with worsening symptoms and massive adaptations to his old life with huge strength and determination.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Despite this, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease and it remains poorly understood. Brain Research UK funds work that advances our understanding of tumour development, diagnosis and treatment. It also funds research in brain and spinal cord injury, and headache and facial pain.

Dad thinks marathons are stupid and bad for the knees, but we think it’s a great way to raise money for and bring awareness to a cause so close to our hearts. Hugh has somehow escaped running due to some admin issues…but the three of us are now kicking off our training ready to run (at considerably different times) in April. Any support, be it a donation or joining us on a training run, will be hugely appreciated. 1/4 of your donation will also be matched by George's work (up to £5k) so it will go even further!

Thank you!
