The face of hunger has changed. It’s not just those experiencing homelessness—it’s working families, teachers, first responders, and seniors. It’s 1 in 6 children in Southwest Florida who don’t have enough food to thrive, learn, and grow. Recent changes to federal and state budgets will result in the loss of approximately $82 million in annual SNAP benefits for our region.

Last year, Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed 5.2 million pounds of food right here in Charlotte County, supporting our neighbors through a dedicated network of Agency Partners. In 2025, through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Charlotte County, we’re proud to provide fresh, healthy produce to supplement distributions to over 155 households.

This is a critical moment. With the loss of 33 million meals per year in Southwest Florida due to reductions in federal assistance, your support is more vital than ever. Families in Charlotte County are struggling to put food on the table.

Punta Gorda residents and longtime Food Bank supporters, Erik & Diane Hoffer, stepped forward earlier this summer to help meet a $65,000 challenge match to fight summer hunger. The Hoffer Family Foundation is offering an additional $20,000 challenge match exclusively for Charlotte County.

“No family should have to choose between feeding their children and feeding their pets,” said Erik Hoffer of the Hoffer Family Foundation and Southwest Florida German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. “We support Harry Chapin Food Bank because they’re helping families avoid those impossible choices—and ensuring that no neighbor has to face hunger alone.”
