Story

Hi, I’m Sam from North Devon Hog Roast, and in 2026 I’ll be swapping crackling for coastal cliffs as I take on the Incredible Hike — a 60-mile trek along the rugged, beautiful, brutal miles of the Cornish coastline to help raise vital funds for a charity that means the world to us: Children’s Hospice South West.

This has honestly been a dream of mine for years, but many of you will know that my knee had other ideas! After struggling with pain for a long time, I finally had a long-awaited operation back in April, and after months of recovery and rehab (plus a lot of physio and a few choice words), training has finally begun!

And let me tell you… it’s no walk in the park.

It’s more like a climb, a limp, and the occasional "what on earth was I thinking?!" moment.

But I’m doing it because CHSW is truly remarkable. As proud Business Partners, we’ve seen first-hand the incredible work they do, offering care, comfort and compassion to children with life-limiting conditions — and supporting their families through the toughest times imaginable.

The work they do is local, it’s vital, and it’s powered by people like you.

So if you can spare a few pennies (or pounds!), I’d be so, so grateful. Whether it’s the cost of a coffee or a hog roll, every donation helps CHSW continue to be there when it matters most by helping families who are facing the unimaginable and to help provide care, comfort and precious moments for those who need it most.

To put it plainly: this hike will hurt. But the challenges faced by the families CHSW supports are far greater — and every aching mile is in honour of them.

Thank you for reading, for donating, or just for cheering me on (and maybe sending plasters and jelly babies).

Let’s do something incredible together.

Here’s to sore feet, stronger knees, and making every mile matter.

Thank you so much — and if you see me hobbling around North Devon next spring, now you’ll know why!

With love, sore feet, and deep gratitude,

Sam x
