Story

1 in every 7 babies born in the UK will need specialist care.

Our lives changed forever in March 2023. Our identical twins made their dramatic arrival at just 26 weeks’ gestation after being diagnosed with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), and having emergency surgery in utero 10 week's earlier.

We were thrown into the world of neonatal intensive care (NICU) when they were born, each weighing less than 2lbs. The incredible staff at Hull NICU cared for them around the clock for 10 weeks, a time that felt both like an eternity and a blur. We then finished our journey in York SCBU.

Those weeks were filled with highs and devastating lows. My twins faced life-threatening challenges that I had no idea babies could endure. They both battled necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), an infection I learned about through hours of research on the Bliss website. In the darkest moments, Bliss became my lifeline during those worrying nights in the NICU where we feared the worst. Their resources explained the medical jargon, gave me hope, and helped me prepare for what lay ahead.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the NICU team and the knowledge I gained from Bliss, my twins are now happy and healthy girls. Bliss has been with us every step of the way, offering guidance and support when we’ve felt overwhelmed or unsure of what the future holds. That support continues after discharge, when you're thrown into a whole new set of challenges and ongoing health concerns as they grow.

Bliss not only supports families like mine, but they also campaign for better care and funding for neonatal units across the UK.

I’m asking for your support today because no parent should have to face this journey alone. Bliss gave us the knowledge and strength we needed to fight alongside our babies, and with your donation, they can continue to help others during the most challenging moments of their lives.

Your generosity can help fund life-changing research, create resources for families, and ensure that every baby born premature or sick has the best chance of survival and quality of life.

Thank you for reading our story.
