Story
On Sunday 22nd June 2025, OSPA are hosting their annual OSPA Charity Dog Walk on the island of Sal, Cape Verde! I will be participating from my home in Scotland to help support the cause.
OSPA Cabo Verde Cats and Dogs are a local organisation on the island of Sal who provides food, care, homing and veterinary attention for up to 60 dogs who reside at the OSPA rehoming centre in Sal, Cape Verde. OSPA also provide food, care and veterinary attention for the free roaming dogs/cats and abandoned puppies/kittens on the beaches, in the hotels, and in the streets of Sal. Additionally, they provide support, care, education and accessories (e.g., collars and leads) for the local people on Sal to try and prevent the mistreatment of animals. They amazingly host two neutering campaigns per year for the locals cats and dogs, cats and dogs in their re-homing centre, and street cats and dogs to try and control the number of animals on the island to reduce the numbers of animals who get abused.
I visited OSPA in August 2024 and seen the AMAZING work they do. They really are superstars!
To help with these costs, OSPA run different initiatives such as sponsor a dog, sponsor a suite, Amazon wishlists, raffles, and in this instance their annual dog walk. I will be walking from my home in Kilmarnock to Irvine and back (approximately 6 hours) on Sunday 22nd June 2025 to try and fundraise and support OSPA. I did look at travelling one-way but further afield (e.g., Kilmarnock to Ardrossan) however, the buses are currently on strike and the trains are a nightmare on this date so I thought I would play it safe and make it a round trip. I hate the concept of just walking for hours (especially alone), I have no sense of direction and will most certainly get lost, and seeing the same green bushes for 6 hours is really not a vibe so PLEASE sponsor me to make me feel better about it all.
