We are a non-profit organisation that relies completely on donations from adoptions and fundraising events so that we can ensure that any dog we help to save is healthy and up-to-date with vaccinations, neutered, given worm/flea treatments and that they are treated for any illnesses before rehoming.

Story

Thankyou for visiting this page. I am a volunteer for Staffie Smiles Rescue and I had the honour of being Holly-Bumblebums foster mum. Why "Bumblebum"? She was always bumbling about up to mischief and searching for snacks!

About Holly

I first saw Holly's foster appeal by Helping Yorkshires Poundies (HYP). A 16year old brindle staffie with the most beautiful teddybear face. Holly was in very poor condition and on top of all this recently found herself in the pound.

Understandably, HYP wanted her out of the pound urgently and into a palliative care foster home. That's when she came to me.

When she arrived she was emotionally shut down, she would look straight through me, she wouldn't engage with anything, even her food. I worried if she was even still in there. She was emaciated with far too many lumps and bumps which pained us to see. BUT! Over the next few days with the help of pain meds, food in her belly, warmth and love her beautiful character started to emerge and what a character she was! Once she found her appetite again there was no stopping her.

She soon taught me not to under estimate her and enjoy the time together rather than being sad about her past or worrying about her future. Each day together was a win! She trusted me, a stranger, to pick her up, take her to the vets, shower her daily, whatever was needed. We had a little over two weeks together. Her body started to tire and I let her pass peacefully and with dignity at home with the help of a kind vet.

Holly may have only been with me a short while but she is greatly missed. I miss her toast tantrums, her head butts for strokes, her barking at me for taking too long throwing the tennis ball! She also touched the lives of so many others across the country! It takes team work to rescue a dog, from the pound, the social media volunteers who shared her appeal, the transporters, the support team behind the fosters, and her cheerleaders who kindly and generously donated. Holly was truly loved by a lot of people.

Walk to remember Holly 9th March

I may not be able to do anything more for Holly but I can continue to help other dogs in her memory. I'd like to give back to Helping Yorkshire Poundies who saved Holly and Staffie Smiles Rescue for supporting me in fostering her. Two inspirational rescues who work nonstop to save dogs in need.

I am holding a walk to remember Holly 9th March. Please join us from wherever you are by taking your dog for a walk and making it just that little bit extra special for them (whatever that be for your dog). For Holly this would be extra long snuffles, for my Coco this would be a puppachino! Please attend our FB event here https://fb.me/e/1QPyT1b5r and join the discussion so we can share photos of our day! Suggested donation to join £5 please pay via this page. Any funds raised will be shared between HYP and Staffie Smiles Rescue. Please, wherever you are, join us on this day to remember our special beautiful Teddybear faced girl - Holly.

Sleep well Bumblebum, how we wish you could of stayed longer.
