Story
As part of a wider project to celebrate the power of sport in bringing communities together, local filmmaker Matt Radcliffe is raising money for St Augustine’s Centre.
St Augustine’s is a vibrant community centre in Halifax that welcomes and supports refugees and people seeking asylum. Working across Calderdale, the Centre gives people the practical support they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and offers a range of activities that help them feel happier and more connected.
Matthew Radcliffe is a photographer and filmmaker based in Halifax who is driven by a passion to tell authentic stories and leave the world a better place.
In partnership with St Augustine’s, Matt has developed Home Ground – a film that follows the head coach and players from St Augustine’s FC and looks at the important role that football plays as they seek asylum and build a new life here in the UK.
The film premiered at Hebden Bridge cinema in April 2025 where over 300 people came to find out more about the Centre and support their work.
From 13 June, Home Ground will be available to view again as part of the Common Ground exhibition at The Everybody Gallery in Halifax.
The exhibition is free but if you’d like to donate to St Augustine’s Centre in lieu of the ticket cost or simply to show your support for the work of the Centre, your donation - no matter how big or small - will be gratefully received.
All funds donated will go to the Centre to support its running and help more people seeking sanctuary to take part in activities that support their wellbeing and help them to connect with the community.
Suggested donation: £5 per adult
- £10 would purchase two English Language books for vital English classes
- £25 would purchase a food voucher for someone who is destitute
- £50 would pay for 75 meals at the Centre’s Welcome Café
- £60 would buy a pair of football boots to help players to safely take part in community games and tournaments
Every little helps - thank you for your support.
